We’re pleased to share with you our latest deep dive into the UK Consumer Energy Transition.
The inspiration for this document came to me at Christmas when I jotted down some numbers on the back of an envelope to try to convince my parents as to why their next car should be an EV.
When I found the envelope in the bin seconds later, the feedback I took was that they were looking for more pictures and less numbers. I started compiling the following document in answer to that. I then got carried away, stretching the analysis to look at the full gamut of heat pumps, solar & battery and even smart meters.
It can be overwhelming and complicated to try and understand the scale of the energy transition. We’ve tried to simplify it by looking at it through the lens of the consumer as it’s the consumer who ultimately drives long term change in society.
We try to answer questions such as:
How does a BMW 3 Series compare to a Tesla Model 3
Why is the ratio of the electricity to gas price important for heat pump adoption
What would be the potential annual bill of having EVs, heat pump, solar & battery
The message at the end is one of hope. We show that the long term transition towards net zero homes is not only possible with today’s technology but also financially beneficial to consumers. We just need to make sure that everyone can get there as soon as possible to reap the economic benefits and carbon reductions.
